Ico Gallery is located in the heart of the Chelsea art district in a 3,500 sq ft ground floor space. We are seeking talented, charismatic, hard working interns for the Spring semester. Applicants should be able to dedicate at least 2 days per week for a duration of 3 months. Candidates must have exceptional writing and speaking skills who present themselves in an extremely professional manner. The internship is UNPAID, but the right people will earn the opportunity to earn income in the future. Optimal candidates will have experience in the art world, and understand how a gallery runs, but we are willing to train motivated individuals. Sales experience would also be extremely helpful. You must be fluent with Mac operating systems and Microsoft Office. Owning your own laptop and having passion for fine art is REQUIRED.
We have two available internship positions. The first is assisting with Promoting, Marketing and Sales - Candidate should be an exceptional sales person possessing remarkable people skills both in person and over the phone. You will interact with patrons and artists on a regular basis and should feel very comfortable talking with people. You will be asked to pursue sales leads, help market artists to museums and other establishments, go to parties, mingle, have fun!
The second is a Design/Media internship. For this position, you must be experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and have knowledge of basic HTML. You will assist with catalog, invitation and evite design, website and blog updates, and also assist with updating the advertising and marketing websites. You will be working directly with our artists to produce the best possible media presentations.
Both interns will assist the senior curator. You will review artist websites and assist with finding new artists for the gallery to work with. Finding the next big thing is critical to the gallery business, and this internship can lead to a permanent position at the gallery, or also towards a museum career.
Both interns will also have to be interested in art criticism, as we will have you write reviews of our shows and artists, and review exhibitions at other galleries and museums throughout NYC that would be of interest to Ico Gallery.
You will gain a lot of practical knowledge and a firm understanding of how a gallery is run.
